INTRODUCTION
Background and objectives
A symposium on future technologies and solutions for ATM is organized by ASECNA, 22 -24 October 2008 in Yaoundé, Republic of Cameroon.


The objective of the symposium is to provide ASECNA, as well as all the relevant air navigation service providers, with an overview on future techniques and technologies which may support air navigation services.

The purpose is to help them identify the resources to be used as part of the new strategic plan of air navigation equipments for the AFI Region.

This is a challenge for African States within the scope of regional and bilateral cooperation with new prospects of cost-effective modernization and a better use of these future systems.


By holding this symposium, ASECNA aims at :

  • Preparing the incorporation of the Agency’s operating centres in the new global context of air traffic management based on future communication, navigation and surveillance technologies;

  • Responding more efficiently to the growing needs of international air traffic through the enhancement of the safety level of flights and of the quality of service delivered by the Agency’s ATS centres ;

  • Preparing the future investment plan 2009-2013 ;

  • Providing information to the state’s civil aviation authorities on the state of art in the provision of ATS services ;

  • Promoting the harmonization of technological choices with Air Navigation Service Providers.

Some of the topics to be introduced are mentioned below :

  • Surveillance : Human factors related to the use of a dependent surveillance ;

  • Safety management : impact on systems ;

  • ADS-B in non radar airspace : cases of the Indian Ocean ;

  • Avian risk : new means of fight ;

  • Aeronautical constraints and means of fight against jammers.
